Can Wales avoid a Caribbean collapse when they take on Trinidad & Tobago at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Football? So far Ryan Giggs hasn’t overseen the most thrilling period of Welsh football; only thrice has the Manchester United legend shepherded his side to victory in his 9 games in charge. Things started well enough, with Wales hammering China 6-0 this time last year, while they managed to do the double over the Republic of Ireland during the inaugural UEFA Nations League.
However, that’s about it. A pair of losses to Denmark means that Wales missed out on Nations League promotion and, more importantly, a guaranteed place in the Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs if they fail to reach the competition through the normal route. That puts all the more pressure on Sunday’s visit from Slovakia, one that sees the country kick off a Euro qualifying campaign that also pits them against Azerbaijan, Hungary and beaten World Cup finalists Croatia. As for Wednesday’s warm-up, it is unthinkable that Giggs’ lads come away from Wrexham with anything less than a resounding win. The only teams Trinidad & Tobago beat in 2018 were Guadeloupe and the UAE; elsewhere they managed a goalless draw against Martinique, and 1-0 losses against international giants Panama, Thailand and Iran. There is the argument that this kind of game isn’t exactly the kind of prep that’ll do Wales much good come Sunday. Even so, a big win will give them an extra shot of confidence, with Spreadex offering a Wales/Trinidad & Tobago Goal Supremacy spread of 1.8-2, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.
