Can Wolves continue their surprisingly strong record against the top 6 when they host Man United, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Though they might be well off a place in Europe – well, at least those currently on offer; the eventual winners of the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League could change that – Wolves are undoubted this season’s biggest surprise. Last year’s Championship champs, they’ve defied the usual post-promotion wobble – just look at Fulham and Cardiff, the former basically guaranteed to get relegated, the latter needing a minor miracle – to spend most of 2018/19 in the top half of the table.
Not only that, they’ve done it by going toe to toe with the league’s big hitters. The club has racked up wins over Chelsea and Tottenham, and draws against Man City, Arsenal and the Blues. Even better has been their FA Cup run: knocking out Liverpool in the 3rd round and, promisingly, Man United in the quarter-finals, they have a winnable semi against Watford this weekend. They haven’t been at their best, however, in the last few weeks. They’ve only managed one win in their last 6 league games, form that has allowed Leicester to draw level on points, with Everton, Watford and West Ham not too far behind. It is funny that the announcement of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent role as United manager came after his worst period since taking over at Old Trafford. A 2-0 defeat at Arsenal was his first league loss, while less than a week later United were dumped out of the FA Cup. Things got back on track at the weekend, with a 2-1 win over Watford. Yet that still leaves them outside the top 4. Now that everyone has played at least 31 games, United find themselves on the same 61 points as Tottenham, but behind on goal difference (they’re also 2 points behind the Gunners in 3rd following that loss last month). Going into Tuesday night, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku are both at Super Mega PGMs of 29-35, quite a way ahead of Raul Jimenez on 20-24. As for the result itself, though the hosts know how to get one over their visitors, Spreadex are still offering a Man United/Wolves (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.45-0.65, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65.
