Can Roma pull-off another remarkable comeback and spoil Liverpool’s hopes of reaching the Champions League final, at 7.45pm on BT Sport 2? Conventional wisdom would dictate this fixture is all but over. Liverpool were in truly majestic form last Tuesday, putting 5 goals past Roma in an astonishing 70 minute period. Yet the Reds allowed Roma back into the tie in the closing 10 minutes, the visitors to scoring 2 potentially crucial away goals before the final whistle. And, yes, Liverpool still clear have the upper hand. However, Roma have previous in beating the odds, becoming only the 3rd team in Champions League history to overturn a 3 goal deficit after the opening leg when they knocked out unbeaten La Liga champs Barcelona in the quarter-finals. Though that knowledge makes Wednesday’s trip to the Italian capital far more competitive than it would seem on paper, Liverpool will take solace from the fact that they haven’t actually lost a game in Europe this season. Oh, and the fact that they have Mohamed freaking Salah! A fairly convincing argument can be made that former Roma forward Salah – who nabbed a brace against his old club last week – is not only the Premier League’s best player in 2017/18, but the best player in Europe full stop. In all competitions the Egyptian magician has 43 goals, and is only 4 goals way from equalising Ian Rush’s record for most goals scored in a single season for Liverpool, with a minimum of 5 games left in which to do so. With a Super Mega PGM of 48-56 – a spread shared by Roma’s Edin Dzeko – Salah will be hoping to add a couple more to his tally on Wednesday evening. While Real Madrid are in their 3rd consecutive Champions League final – and 4th in the last 5 seasons – neither Liverpool nor Roma have reached club football’s grandest stage in some time. It’s been more than a decade since the Reds lost to AC Milan in 2007 (2 years after that magical night in Istanbul). As for La Lupa, it’s been even longer – they haven’t been in a European Cup final since they lost to Liverpool of all sides back in 1984. The Italians’ strength at home makes this one really hard to call, with Spreadex offering a choice Roma/Liverpool Goal Supremacy spread of -0.1-0.1 alongside a promising Total Goals spread of 3.4-3.6.
