With one foot already in the next round, can Tottenham keep their cool when they travel to Borussia Dortmund at 8pm on BT Sport 2? Spurs took a commanding lead in the 1st leg, giving the Bundesliga leaders a right Wembley whipping. Son Heung-min put the hosts in front just after the break, with Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente extending the lead to 3-0 in the final 7 minutes of the fixture.
You’d have expected Tottenham to carry that confidence into the league. Instead that Champions League triumph preceded back-to-back away losses against Burnley and Chelsea, alongside a fiery 1-1 draw against Arsenal (incidentally, the first time Spurs have drawn a league game all season). That’s effectively put an end to their hopes of a dark horse title win, and leaves them looking over their shoulder for those teams that could muscle them out of the top 4. That 1st leg flop came in the middle of Dortmund’s worst period all season. Despite being at the top of the Bundesliga for the last 18 weeks, their grip on the title is slipping. They picked up just one win in February, that 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen joined by draws against Eintracht Frankfurt, 1899 Hoffenheim and Nurnberg. The start of March was even worse, the month kicking off with a 2-1 loss against potential relegatees Augsburg, a defeat that allowed Bayern Munich to draw level on points. The defending champions are now only behind Dortmund due to a marginally inferior goal difference. If the hosts are to stand any chance of overturning that 3 goal deficit, then Paco Alcacer and Marco Reus are going to need to be in the finest of forms; the Spanish forward sits at a Super Mega PGM of 38-44, with his German teammate not too far behind at 36-42. Predictably Harry Kane is Spurs’ best bet, at a Super Mega PGM of 37-43. There’s every chance Dortmund will win on Tuesday; after all, they’re yet to lose a game – well, in regular time, at least – at Signal Iduna Park this season. Whether they can win by enough is another matter entirely. Spreadex are offering a Borussia Dortmund/Tottenham Goal Supremacy spread of 0.35-0.55 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.05-3.25.
