Can Chorley nab a cheeky FA Cup 1st round scalp when they host Fleetwood Town, at 7.45pm on BT Sport 1? The Magpies have already been in the competition for a while now, entering the Cup in the 2nd qualifying round. There they beat the mighty Stalybridge County 3-1, setting up a 3rd qualifying round tie against Ashton Athletic, a game Chorley narrowly escaped 1-0. A 0-0 home draw in their 4th round qualifying fixture against Boston United forced a (thrilling) replay, which Chorley eventually won 4-3 in extra-time despite playing a chunk of the extension with only 10 men. As for Fleetwood Town, they’re yet to make an appearance in the FA Cup this season. Instead they’ve just been chugging along in League One, stuck after losing their 2016/17 play-off semi-final to Bradford City. The Codarmy currently sit in 8th place, just outside the play-off zone, with 4 draws, 5 losses and 7 wins. Their main issues are at the back. While, with 27 goals scored, they have the joint second-best attack in the league – bested only by Wigan and Rotherham, both on 29 – their 25 makes them the leakiest defence in the top 10. Devante Cote is Fleetwood’s top scorer with 8 goals, trailed by Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila on 6 and Ashley Hunter on 3. Given the diminishing returns of each qualifying appearance by the Magpies – 4th round replay excluded – Monday’s intro to the competition proper shouldn’t pose too many issues for the visitors, with Spreadex offering a Fleetwood Town/Chorley (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.95-1.15 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.6-2.8.
