Can Southport secure an early FA Cup scalp when they host Fleetwood Town at 7.45pm on BT Sport 1? Southport haven’t looked too good this season. In their 18 National League games so far the Sandgrounders have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 10, leaving them perilously close to the relegation zone in 19th place. Even more worryingly Southport have the second worst defence in the league, their 37 goals conceded only 2 less than 21st place Woking, who are only 3 points behind the Mersey-side. The club has seen a pick-up in form in the past fortnight, however. Wins against the similarly relegation-challenged Torquay and York (who sit either side of Southport) have given Steve Burr’s side some much needed momentum, something that could prove to be invaluable when heading into Monday night. Already Southport have gone one better than they did last season, beating Chester in qualifying to nab a place in the 1st round proper. Though they may be barely in the top half of the table a decent run could do wonders for League One’s Fleetwood Town. In 10th place they are only 2 points behind 6th place Northampton, meaning a bit more consistency from the Trawlermen (they have only been able to string 2 consecutive wins together this season) could see them challenging for a spot in the play-offs. The home side a firmly the underdogs going into Monday’s fixture, though in the cup nothing is certain; Spreadex are offering a Fleetwood/Southport (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.15-1.35 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.85-3.05.
