FIFA Women’s World Cup Preview – France vs Norway/Germany vs Spain, Wednesday 12th June 2019



The winner of Group A may well be decided when France take on Norway in Nice, at 8pm on BBC Four.

The hosts – who are the tournament favourites despite only once reaching the final 4, the country sitting at an Outright Index spread of 48-52, and a fixed odds price of 13/5 (shared with the USA) – got off to best possible start last Friday. Eugenie Le Sommer opened scoring against South Korea in the 9th minute, followed by a 1st half brace from Wendie Renard and a late cherry on top from Amandine Henry.


Norway weren’t far off when they faced Nigeria, bulging the back of the net 3 times in less than 40 minutes – the third being an own goal courtesy of Osinachi Ohale – to secure a 3-0 win.

Corinne Diacre’s side will be feeling confident heading into Wednesday night, and likely have it in them to beat the 1995 champions, with Spreadex offering a France/Norway Goal Supremacy spread of 1.45-1.65, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95.

In Wednesday’s other big fixture, Group B favourites Germany and Spain do battle at 5pm on BBCi. The Germans, who are 2nd only to the USA in terms of their record in the World Cup, survived a scare in their first game, with a 66th minute goal from Giulia Gwinn the only thing separating them and China.

Despite beating South Africa 3-1, Spain were equally uncomfortable in their opening outing. Going 1-0 down in the 25th minute, it took a 69th minute penalty from Jenni Hermoso for them to draw level. Another converted spot kick from Hermoso put them in front with 8 minutes to go, with Lucia Garcia cementing the win right at the end of the game.

Die Nationalelf – who are expected to at least reach the semis, at an Outright Index spread of 42-46 to Spain’s 24-27 – will be looking to take control of Group B in Valenciennes, with Spreadex offering a Germany/Spain Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.3-2.5.
