Can West Ham build on Saturday’s shock win over Chelsea when they host Arsenal, at 8pm on BT Sport 1? After a rocky start – his first 3 games in charge saw a 1-1 draw against Leicester sandwiched between 2-0 and 4-0 losses to Watford and Everton respectively – David Moyes appears to be making real progress at the London Stadium. At the start of December the Hammers pushed rampant league leaders Man City all the way, only beaten by an 83rd minute strike from David Silva after Nicolas Otamendi had equalised Angelo Ogbonna’s pre-interval opener. With confidence buoyed by that narrow defeat, West Ham then took on (barely) defending champions Chelsea...and won! The Hammers managed to hold onto a 1-0 lead from the 6th minute onwards, despite having just 31% of possession and 5 shots to the Blues’ 19. It was also a feisty affair, with 6 different West Ham players picking up a yellow card across the 90 minutes. Continuing the good news for Hammers’ fans, it looks like Javier Hernandez make finally make an appearance after 5 weeks on the side-lines. Chicharito is West Ham’s top scorer in the league with 4 goals, and heads into Wednesday night at a Super Mega PGM of 17-21, ahead of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, both on 16-20. In contrast Arsenal are suffering their umpteenth dip in league form this season. After ending November on a high, smashing Huddersfield 5-0, the Gunners stumbled out of the blocks in December, losing 3-1 at home to Man United (almost exactly one month on from their 3-1 defeat at Man City). Hopes of a quick rebound were dashed on Sunday, as Arsenal struggled to secure a point at St Mary’s. Southampton had taken the lead in the 3rd minute and were on track for a deserved victory, only for Olivier Giroud to save Arsenal’s blushes with an 88th minute equaliser. Gunners’ top scorer Alexandre Lacazette beats his fellow countryman in terms of Super Mega PGM, at 40-47 to Giroud’s 38-44. Alexis Sanchez, meanwhile, is at 33-39, with Danny Welbeck at 27-32 and Mesut Ozil at 16-20. Despite some pretty ropey away form – the Gunners have won just 2 of this season’s 8 league games on the road – and an impressive showing from the hosts at the weekend, Arsene Wenger’s lot aren’t expected to be particularly troubled on Wednesday, with Spreadex offering an Arsenal/West Ham (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.85-1.05 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.85-3.05.
