It might not necessarily be the easiest start for those UK sides kicking off their Champions League campaigns on Tuesday night. First let’s address the elephant in the room: Celtic taking on Barcelona, at the Nou Camp, in their Group C opener. While Brendan Rodgers’ side are going great guns domestically, scoring 15 goals in 4 games in the league, and another 5 goals in the Scottish League Cup, in Europe they have looked far from convincing against some pretty ropey opponents. The nadir of qualifying, of course, was their loss against Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar; in fact, rather worryingly considering where Tuesday’s game is being played, Celtic failed to win any of their 3 qualifying away legs. Rodgers will just have to pray that Moussa Dembele, at a Super Mega PGMs of 9-12, can maintain their early in the season form against far more exalted opponents. Not that Barcelona haven’t fluffed some of their lines already this year, with a romping 6-2 victory over Real Betis and a far more humble 1-0 win against Athletic Bilbao followed this Saturday by a 2-1 loss against last season’s Segunda Division champions Alaves. That defeat will have given Celtic hope; not enough to impress our Spreadex traders, however, who are offering a whopping Barcelona/Celtic Goal Supremacy spread of 2.9-3.1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.95-4.15. In fixed odds terms that means the Hoops have a paltry 25/1 chance of beating Barca. The other Group C game is another toughie, as Manchester City host Borussia Monchengladbach (poor, poor Celtic). City will be flying high heading into Tuesday’s games; the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola took the first scalp of this season’s Manchester war with a confident win over Mourinho’s United. Kevin de Bruyne and Kelachi Iheanacho (at Super Mega PGMs of 30-36 and 35-41) were the standouts, the latter stepping in for the suspended Sergio Aguero, who returns with a spread of 66-76. City will also take confidence from the fact that they did the double over Monchengladbach at this stage of the competition last season. The German club haven’t got off to the greatest start, a win over Bayer Leverkusen followed by a 3-1 loss to SC Freiburg (though they did win their 1st round DFB-Pokal fixture against SV Drocktersen/Assel). Guardiola will be looking for another convincing victory on Tuesday and things look likely to go his way, our traders offering a Manchester City/Borussia Monchengladbach Goal Supremacy spread of 1.25-1.45 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.35-3.55. Finally Arsene Wenger faces his own obstacles as Arsenal travel to PSG. It has been a typical start to the season for the Gunners; things kicked off with a thrilling defeat to Liverpool, a game that was followed up with a limp 0-0 draw against struggling champions Leicester. A 3-1 victory over Watford was better, though their most recent 2-1 win over Southampton was more than a bit fortuitous. New striker Lucas Perez, who has a Super Mega PGM of 16-20, still needs to bed in, while Olivier Giroud, at 18-22, is yet to score. It is, however, not a bad time to be facing PSG. With Ibrahimovic already proving his worth at Man United, and David Luiz back at Chelsea, the French champions have lost 2 and their biggest players, and have struggled to live up to their usual domestic dominance. Like Giroud Edison Cavani, at a Super Mega PGM of 42-49, hasn’t scored, something that needs to happen soon if he is to adequately fill the hole left by Zlatan. Still, on home turg they still have the ability to upset the Gunners, with our traders offering a PSG/Arsenal Goal Supremacy spread of 0.45-0.65 with a Total Goals spread of 2.65-2.85.
