League One Play-Off Semi-Final 2nd Legs Preview – Portsmouth vs Sunderland/Charlton vs Doncaster, Thursday 16th & Friday 17th May 2019



Will Portsmouth pip Sunderland to the post? Can Charlton dominate Doncaster once again? It’s time for the League One play-off semi-final 2nd legs!

First up on Thursday, Pompey need to overturn their 1st leg loss when they host the Black Cats at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Main Event. Christopher Maquire’s goal just after the hour mark was the only thing separating the 2 sides by the end of Saturday’s fixture, Sunderland securing their first win in almost a month.


That game was the 4th time the clubs have met this season. Before last weekend Portsmouth had won 3-1 at home in December, beaten Sunderland on penalties the EFL Trophy final in March, and drawn 1-1 at the Stadium of Light in April.

Having been atop the League One table from the end of September to mid-January, Kenny Jackett and co. will be bitterly disappointed if they don’t at least reach Wembley. They are, at least, the favourites for Thursday night, Spreadex offering a Portsmouth/Sunderland Goal Supremacy spread of 0.3-0.5, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.25-2.45.

Friday then sees Charlton try and preserve their lead over Doncaster, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports Main Event. Lyle Taylor’s 25th goal of the season, and Joe Aribo’s 10th, had put the Addicks 2-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium, only for the Rovers to pull themselves back into the fixture courtesy of an 87th minute lifeline from Matty Blair.

The result was revenge for December’s FA Cup 2nd round exit at the hands of Doncaster, Grant McCann’s side – who only narrowly reached the play-offs – winning that tie 2-0 at the Valley.

Taylor is fancied to continue his hot season. He sits at a Super Mega PGM of 41-48, well above the 18-22 managed by Doncaster’s John Marquis despite the fact the 26-year old has the same 25 goals in 2018/19.

Lee Bowyer’s men should hold onto their lead on Friday, with Spreadex offering a Charlton/Doncaster Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.45-2.65.
