Will it be Newport or Plymouth who secure a 3rd round trip to Liverpool when the 2 sides meet at 7.45pm on BT Sport 1?

Interestingly this replay pits the top and bottom of League Two against each other, with 1st place Plymouth travelling to bottom place Newport after their first attempt at the fixture ended in a goalless draw at the start of December.

That goalless draw capped off Plymouth’s worst period this season, the Pilgrims losing their final 3 games of November on the trot having won 12 and drawn 2 in their previous 14 games. Since then, however, Plymouth have gotten back on track, with victories over promotion-rival Doncaster and a struggling Accrington Stanley returning them to the top of the table with a 2 point lead.

Graham Carey has been their best option up-front, his 9 League Two goals leaving him with a Super Mega PGM of 16-20. Jake Jervis, meanwhile, has a spread of 22-27 after finding the back of the net 5 times this season, with Jordan Slew and Craig Tanner, both on 3 goals, at 21-26 and 20-24 respectively.

Newport, on the other hand, have lost their last 4 league games in a row and now sit in 24th place, 4 points behind Cheltenham above them. Last time the Exiles hosted Plymouth they lost 3-1, with 2 converted penalties joined by a last goal from Slew.

Despite the fact that the Pilgrims have re-found their table-topping form Wednesday evening’s fixture could be tight, with Spreadex offering a narrow Plymouth/Newport (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.1-0.3 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.35-2.55.
