Sports Spread Betting Blog – 22/10/15: Preview – Anderlecht v Tottenham and Liverpool v Rubin Kazan, Europa League.

There’s been something of a circus around the appointment of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with many media reports and highlights of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane focusing just as much on the German’s touchline antics as the actual action on the field.

As it turned out it was a creditable, if slightly fortuitous point to open his career at the Reds, however tonight’s clash looks much easier on paper.

The Spreadex traders have the Goal Supremacy at Liverpool/Rubin 1.1 – 1.3 suggesting the hosts should win by at least a goal against opponents who have struggled so far in the Russian Premier League where they sit in 12th place (out of 16 teams) with just 10 points from 12 games.

Away from home in the league this season, Rubin have lost four, drawn one and won one – poor form which continued from the back end of last season when they failed to win any of their last six on the road in the league.

However spread betters seem slightly cautious over this one and we haven’t seen clients rushing to back Liverpool on the spreads in the same way we did yesterday for both Manchester clubs.

After a stalemate at the weekend, punters are perhaps waiting to see whether Klopp is concentrating more on his pressing, containing game rather than the free-flowing attacking football that Dortmund were noted for in their prime.

They are also maybe waiting to see the German’s team selection ahead of the 8.05pm kick-off to get a clue of whether Klopp will be taking the Europa League seriously or whether he will be giving more thought to Sunday’s Premier League clash with Southampton.

So with this in mind, and possibly tempted by a huge 17 corners being taken in last night’s Man City victory over Sevilla, the most popular market pre-match seems to be Corners where we’ve seen plenty of buyers on a spread of 10 – 10.5.

Corners Squared have also had some interest on a spread of 114 – 125, again perhaps as this market made up at 289 at the Etihad last night after a pre-match spread of 100 – 111 (which meant profits of 178 times their stake for buyers but losses of 189 times their stake for sellers, unless they managed to close out early).

Before the Liverpool game tonight, it’s Anderlecht v Tottenham, live on BT Sport Europe at 6pm.

Since losing to Manchester United on the opening day of the season, Mauricio Pochettino has made Spurs hard to beat with the only defeat coming in the League Cup at Arsenal in the 11 games since then (admittedly one you do not want to lose if you are Tottenham boss).

That said, there have been probably more draws in that period than Spurs fans would have liked leaving the Lillywhites seventh in the table currently.

Anderlecht have had a similar start to their season in the Belgian Pro-League with just the one defeat and again plenty of draws – four from their last seven games to be precise – although they did win impressively 4-0 at Waregem last time out.

Italian striker Stefano Okaka is their main threat with six goals this season and as he wears number 99 is one to watch out for if you are considering playing Shirt Numbers with Spreadex.

The Spreadex traders give Spurs the slight edge in this one with a Goal Supremacy spread of Tottenham/Anderlecht (h) 0.1 – 0.3. However, again we’ve not had floods of bets so far in support of Tottenham at this price suggesting that, as was the case in Spurs’ last away trip in the Europa League, a draw could again be the possible outcome here.
