Can Bristol rattle Man City all the way out of the EFL Cup, or will the Premier League leaders’ quadruple hopes remain intact? The Robins – who, remember, defeated Man United in the quarter-finals – gave City a bit of a shock when the 2 sides met for their semi-final 1st leg a fortnight ago. Bristol actually led heading into half time, with a converted penalty from Bobby Reid capping a dream opening 45 minutes for the Championship club. Yet City were relentless going forwards, ending the match with 26 shots and 68% of possession; Kevin de Bruyne gave them the equaliser 10 minutes after the restart, before Sergio Aguero snatched the winner with effectively the final kick of the game. Frustratingly for Bristol this 2nd leg is coming after the club’s worst run all season. They haven’t won a game since Boxing Day, losing to Wolves, Aston Villa (a painful 5-0 defeat) and Norwich in the Championship, City in the EFL Cup and Watford in the FA Cup. If that kind of form continues they could well find themselves sacrificing their spot in the play-offs. As for City, after mid-January’s wobble at Anfield, where Pep Guardiola’s side suffered their first domestic defeat of the season, it was back to business as usual on Saturday. Aguero was in majestic form as City beat Newcastle 3-1, the Argentine’s hat-trick taking his tally to 22 goals in all competitions. It also preserved City’s 12 point lead at the top of the table, the kind of deficit that sort of seems insurmountable. Aguero is now only 9 goals from becoming the first player in the history of Manchester City to score 200 goals, a number that, at a Super Mega PGM of 70-82, he will be looking to chip away at on Tuesday. Raheem Sterling, meanwhile, won’t want to let Aguero out of his sights, and at 18 goals in all competitions is at a Super Mega PGM of 44-51. Guardiola likely has Keith Dawe’s number this time out, with Spreadex offering a Manchester City/Bristol City (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 1.85-2.05 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.2-3.4.
