Sports Blog 25/04/2016: Premier League Preview – Tottenham vs West Brom, Monday 25th April 2016

With an emphatic, Vardy-less 4-0 victory over Swansea, followed by the sight of Riyad Mahrez, scorer of the opener against the Swans, receiving the PFA Player of the Year award, it was a pretty superb weekend for Leicester, who now sit 8 points clear at the top of the table. However there is still a chance that Tottenham can pull off a late in the season hail Mary and pluck the title out from underneath the Foxes’ noses.

Spurs need to now win each of their 4 remaining games (tonight’s fixture against West Brom, a trip to Chelsea, a visit from Southampton and a final day dally up north to Newcastle) to stand a chance of winning the league, whilst at the same time hoping Leicester fail to get 5 points from their 3 game run in (a visit from Everton sandwiched between trips to Manchester United and, ironically, defending champions Chelsea). If Tottenham manage to lose tonight’s game, however, the Foxes can seal their astonishing achievement with a victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

So, the pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino’s side not to blow the very slender chance they have of winning Tottenham’s first title since 1960/61. Luckily the first in their final 4 game run is against West Brom, a side whose lacklustre nature sees them languishing in 14th place on 40 points. Last Thursday saw the Baggies suffer their 4th defeat in 5 games (with only 1 goal scored), a 2-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal.

Tottenham, on the other hand, put 4 past Stoke this time last week, with braces from Harry Kane (leading the race for this season’s Golden Boot with 24 goals, and at a staggering Super Mega PGM of 92-107) and Dele Alli (the PFA Young Player of the Year, and at a Super Mega PGM of 34-40). That means Spurs have scored 13 goals in their last 5 games whilst only conceding 1, unsurprisingly leading our Spreadex traders to fancy a rather large home win, offering a Tottenham/West Brom Goal Supremacy spread of 2-2.2 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.1-3.3.
