It’s the last hurrah of the 2017/18 domestic season, with an FA Cup final on Saturday that could cement a debut double for Antonio Conte, and may be the final time Arsene Wenger appears in an Arsenal dugout. Roman Abramovich must be pretty damn pleased with his Italian appointee – once Conte implemented his 3 at the back system in October Chelsea looked unstoppable. However much Tottenham and co. chased, the Blues never really came close to vacating the Premier League top spot, remaining in 1st place for 28 weeks in a row. It’s a far cry from where the club was last season, and though the shift did involve the arrival of Marcos Alonso and, especially, N’Golo Kante, the success has arguably stemmed from Conte revitalising the talents, like Eden Hazard, that had ossified under Jose Mourinho’s shortened second tenure. While the energetic Italian chases his first FA Cup, Arsene Wenger is after is 7th, a feat that would be him the most decorated manager in the history of the competition. Yet that stat will mean nothing to the vocal contingent of Gunners who want the Frenchman out after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 2 decades. If the question marks over Wenger weren’t enough, the Gunners are also facing some serious issues at the back heading to Wembley. Laurent Koscielny is suspended, Gabriel is definitely injured and both Shkodran Mustafi and Kieran Gibbs have picked up knocks that could keep them out of the final. That leaves Per Mertesacker, who has played a mere 37 minutes, as Wenger’s best option for Saturday evening. That doesn’t bode well for a side that were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by the newly crowned champions back in February, meaning Wenger is potentially facing a difficult end to a rather tortuous season. If Arsenal are to stand a chance of lifting the cup once again then Alexis Sanchez needs to be at his best; yet the Chilean currently sits at a solid Super Mega PGM of 21-26, notably lower than Diego Costa’s 35-41. Conte looks set to add another new trophy to cluttered cabinet, with Spreadex offering a Chelsea/Arsenal Goal Supremacy spread of 0.7-0.9 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.85-3.05.
