There’s another set of big International Champions Cup fixtures this Wednesday for some of the Premier League’s major players. First up at 1.05am, Manchester United take on a Ronaldo-less Real Madrid at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. United haven’t had the best time of it pre-season; draws against Club America and San Jose Earthquakes were followed by a 9-8 penalty against AC Milan, one that again came after a 1-1 stalemate. The nadir came at the weekend, as they lost 4-1 to Liverpool in Ann Arbor. That last result caused Jose Mourinho to complain about the club’s transfer strategy, with United failing to add anyone since the start of July. Obviously the focus for Real is the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo, with Wednesday’s game their first fixture since his departure. They are yet to make their big replacement purchase – potential targets apparently include Eden Hazard and Edison Cavani – but did splash €45 million on the 18-year old Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior and €30 million on Spanish defender Alvaro Odriozola. Even without their former flagbearer the Champions League winners still have the edge, at a Real Madrid/Man United (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.8-1 alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.05-3.25. Jumping over to the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Tottenham then face AC Milan at 1.30am. Spurs have done well so far in the International Champions Cup. They hammered Roma 4-1 in San Diego, with both Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura picking up a pair apiece, while they held Barcelona to a 2-2 draw in Pasadena (the fact they lost the subsequent shoot-out matters less than the 90 minute result). Not bad for a team yet to bring in a single player since the transfer window opened. As for AC Milan, their one appearance in the pre-season competition was that aforementioned 1-1 draw against Man United, one that ended in a penalty shoot-out featuring 26 players total. A greater preparedness, then, maybe gives Spurs the advantage, with Spreadex offering a Tottenham/AC Milan Goal Supremacy spread of 0.05-0.25 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.7-2.9. Finally at 8.05pm, Arsenal and Chelsea feature in an early London derby at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Though they lost on penalties to Atletico Madrid, following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, they bounced back in style against an admittedly weakened PSG. The Gunners left Singapore with 5-1 victory, with a brace from Alexandre Lacazette alongside goals from potential new captain Mesut Ozil, Rob Holding and Eddie Nketiah. With their own new manager in tow, Chelsea won their first ICC game against Inter Milan, though they did require penalties to do so. They might be a bit more keen to win Wednesday’s game in normal time, even if it’s just to return to the capital with bragging rights. It’s going to be close, however, with Spreadex offering an Arsenal/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.05-0.25 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.9-3.1.
