Can Derby get their season back on track with a win over QPR, at 7.45pm on Sky Sports 1? Things really have taken a turn for the Rams since the New Year began. As last year wrapped up Derby were in 7th place, knocking on the door off the play-off zone having won 8 and drawn 2 in their final 10 games of 2016. Now they sit in 10th, a decline that doesn’t quite reflect how bad they have been. Of the 14 Championship games they have played in 2017 Derby have won 3, draw 4 and lost 7, a run of form that saw Steve McClaren given the boot on the 12th March. Gary Rowett took over 2 days later, marking the club’s 5th manager in just 13 months – given this aggressive turbulence it’s shocking that the Rams were ever challenging for promotion in the first place. Yet their dream of being in the Premier League next season is likely over, the club 9 points adrift of 6th Place Sheffield Wednesday. Though they are in 15th place there are only actually 3 points separating QPR and Derby (it’s very tight in the middle of the table). The Hoops have kind of had an inverse season to their Friday opponents; during the same period as Derby went unbeaten QPR were drowning, losing 6 games in a row from 26th November to 27th December. Yet, while at times things have looked pretty damn rocky for Ian Holloway’s side in 2017, in their last 7 games they have lost 1, drawn 1 and won 5, helping to put a 10 point moat between them and the relegation zone. Rowett was very, very unlucky not to win his first game in charge of the Rams a fortnight ago, with a 94th minute equaliser from Daniel Pinillos meaning the points were shared between Derby and Nottingham Forest. The manager may be in luck on Friday, however, with Spreadex offering a Derby/QPR Goal Supremacy spread of 0.45-0.65 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.35-2.55.
