Spread Bets Of The Day

Top 3 bets for Wednesday's FA Cup football & tennis

Is there any football on tonight?

The FA Cup takes centre stage tonight as North West rivals Stockport County and Bolton Wanderers meet in a 1st Round replay at Edgeley Park. These two teams played out a 2-2 draw at the University of Bolton Stadium earlier this month, when non-league County took a shock lead through Scott Quigley, roared on by 5000 travelling fans. Eoin Doyle got Bolton back on terms and Elias Kachunga put the League One side in front, only for Ben Whitfield to send the game to a replay. It’s a sell out at Edgeley Park for the first time in 13 years, but can that crowd inspire the Hatters to complete the upset and make it through to round 2, where they would meet another League 1 outfit, Rotherham?

Total Goal Minutes 140-150

The first meeting was an open affair with four goals in the first half, and there’s not much reason to expect different in this replay. Dave Challinor only had three training sessions before the first meeting, and Stockport players have remarked that the new boss has them employing more attacking tactics. Bolton did look more solid in Friday’s 2-0 defeat of Crewe, and will be determined not to be so open as they look to avoid the giant killing efforts of Stockport.

Is there any British interest in the ATP Finals?

Cameron Norrie has been given a late call up to the season-ending tournament as an injury replacement, and plays his first game around 8pm tonight. The British number 1 was disappointed not to cap his best ever season with place in the elite eight-man event in Turin, but an injury to Stefanos Tsitsipas means he does get his chance after all. Norrie will take on Norwegian Casper Ruud in his first game tonight before the small matter of facing world number one Novak Djokovic on Friday. Ruud thrashed Norrie in the final of the San Diego Open last month 6-0 6-2, but the Brit bounced back the following week to take the Indian Wells title, the biggest of his career.

Match Superiority Ruud/Norrie 2-5

With Norrie stepping in as a late replacement, Ruud has unsurprisingly been installed as favourite at 8/13. On the spreads, that equates to a 2-5 quote on Ruud's supremacy, where the make-up is calculated giving 10 points to the winner plus five points per set won. We've seen some early selling here though, as patriotic punters back Norrie to end the season on a high. Rather than heading to Stockholm with Andy Murray and Dan Evans last week, Norrie decided to travel to Turin and take his place as a reserve, even though Jannik Sinner, beaten by Murray in Sweden, was first reserve. The Italian got the call up to replace his compatriot Matteo Berrettini yesterday, making an instant impression by beating Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. Can a well rested Norrie do the same?

Who is going to win the WTA Finals in Mexico?

Garbine Muguruza will play Anett Kontaveit in the final of the WTA Finals tonight in a repeat of the group game played last week, when the Spaniard won in straight sets. The two-time Grand Slam champ beat her compatriot Paula Badosa 6-3 6-3 in the semis to set up the clash with Estonian Kontaveit, who beat Maria Sakkari to give herself a chance of a first ever major final win. Kontaveit won back-to-back tournaments leading up to this event but could not prevent Muguruza winning their group game 6-4 6-4. World number 5 Muguruza is looking to become the first Spaniard to win this event, though Arantxa Sanchez Vicario was runner-up in 1993.

X-Courts 49-54

This is expected to be a close match, with Kontaveit the 8/11 favourite and Muguruza the slight outsider at 11/10. When matches are set to be close, the X-Courts spread is a popular one with buyers, as it benefits from both players winning as many games as possible, and with the match going to three sets. X-Courts is made up of the aggregate of the two players’ game scores in each set multiplied together, so a 6-4 4-6 6-0 win will settled at 48, 24+24+0. Buyers will be slightly wary that the favourite, Kontaveit, has never played in a game as big as this, and will be desperate to not see her freeze on the big occasion.
