Weekend's Big Winning Bets

Having suffered interference in the Derby at Epsom, Westover travelled over the Irish Sea for a crack at the Irish Derby and he duly obliged, landing the Group 1 contest after being sent off 11/8 joint-favourite.

That was the pick of the horse racing but it has been a thrilling weekend for rugby league and cricket fans. Firstly in the oval ball game there were international wins for New Zealand, Samoa and Fiji whilst New South Wales battered Queensland in their second State of Origin match. Closer to home, Castleford edged past Catalans in a thriller whilst Salford destroyed Wakefield.

At the time of publishing, England were being held up in their run chase on the final day of the third Test by inclement weather in Leeds. India meanwhile beat Ireland in a rain affected T20 on Sunday.

Finally, Montpellier beat Castres in the Top 14 Play-Off final to land their maiden French title.

With Wimbledon on the horizon  we bring you three big winning spread bets from the weekend.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

SALFORD RED DEVILS v WAKEFIELD TRINITY – MATCH MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 1748)

Wakefield headed to the AJ Bell Stadium with back-to-back wins under their belts and with Willie Poching making only two changes from the side that beat Hull FC, they would have fancied getting a third win in the bag.

They scored the first try of the game as well through James Batchelor, but what followed was a complete capitulation. Paul Rowley’s side scored six tries in the first half to take a commanding 32-6 lead into the second half.

Things didn’t get any better for Trinity after the break as they shipped seven more tries and managed just one in reply. Joe Burgess scored a hat-trick and Ryan Brierley, Brodie Croft and Ken Sio all scored braces as the Red Devils reached their record Super League points total. The final score was a 74-10 thrashing.

With 38 points in the first half and 46 in the second, the market settled at 1748 against a pre-match spread of 445-486 as buyers came away with a win of 1262x their stake.

Elsewhere in Super League there were good wins for buyers in Super-Mega Minutes as Abbas Miski scored four tries against Toulouse with Leroy Cudjoe joining Burgess in the hat-trick club this weekend. In the internationals, David Nofoaluma had a productive evening scoring four against the Cook Islands.

LEAGUE OF IRELAND FRIDAY 24th JUNE – TOTAL AGGREGATE GOAL MINUTES (SETTLED AT 347)

The League of Ireland has been the go to place for 0-0 draws with at least two occurring in each of the last three gameweeks with Friday’s being played out in Dundalk’s trip to Shelbourne and Drogheda’s clash with Sligo.

Over the five games in this aggregate market Billy King’s fifth minute goal for St Pat’s against Finn Harps was the only one scored in the first half. Good news for sellers then who were playing on a spread which was 656-681 before the matches kicked off.

There was some action in the second halves as Shamrock Rovers and Derry City scored on their way to 1-0 wins over Bohemians and UCD respectively. Billy King was also able to double his tally for the evening as St Pat’s took a 2-0 lead with sellers sat on a total of 169 and a tidy profit as the minutes ticked down.

However, winnings took a dent when Jose Carillo scored in the 88th minute for Finn and a 96th minute Ethan Boyle equaliser (goals scored in second half injury time count as 90) made the final make-up 347. Despite the late flurry it was still a satisfying evening for sellers who won 309x their stake.

CURRAGH 24th JUNE – MULTI-MULES (SETTLED AT 916)

Before Westover won the Irish Derby on Saturday, there was a good card at the Curragh on Friday evening to whet everyone’s appetites with the Group 2 International Curragh Cup the pick of the action.

Ahead of racing commencing, the spread on Multi-Mules (racecard number of the winner multiplied by the second and aggregated for the card) was 548-598. Buyers on the spread were off to a great start in the first as Ryan Moore’s Victoria Road (number 11) chased home Slan Abhaile (15) in the first to add 165 to the tally.

A whopping 170 points were added in the second race as odds-on favourite Never Ending Story came home in front of Sandy Creek. Races three and four added a combined points total of just nine though, before 190 landed in the Apprentice Derby.

With two races to go, buyers were just in the red with the running total at 535 but Dunum (9) winning by a neck from Grappa Nonino (24) and Maze Runner (11) romping home ahead of Dark Voyager (15) meant that the final make-up was 916.

A great evening of racing for buyers on the Multi-Mules market then as they landed a win of 318x their stake.
