Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
Andrew heads to day three of the Dante Festival at York, Newbury and Newmarket for his three recommended bets/trades on Friday, May 17th.
MARSH BENHAM could only finish seventh of the nine runners in a 7f handicap at Brighton on April 30th but that run, his first since early November, would have been needed and he looks interesting now back over a straight mile. He ran third of 15 at Newmarket when last encountering such conditions and his only other straight-mile run saw him score at Chepstow on his second start last term. There should be a good pace on in this apprentice handicap and he handles any ground conditions. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back him each-way at a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back MARSH BENHAM in Newbury 2.00
Jack Enright’s rides continue to run below market expectations and it could be worth opposing HARRY THE HAGGLER, his mount in this 7f handicap. Enright has a five from 119 record for a loss of £93.75 to a £1 level stake at SP and he’s 0-43 on turf. Harry The Hagler’s two wins have come on left-handed tracks and Newmarket’s straight 7f is far from certain to suit. Sell in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market. Fixed odds punters might wish to side with DAKOTA POWER, who scored with something in hand on his latest outing.
Recommendation: Oppose HARRY THE HAGLER in Newmarket 2.23
High draws have struggled over all trips at York so far this week and I want to be with stall 1 runner KING’S CODE in this 1m2f handicap. The David Evans-trained four-year-old has a healthy career record (seven wins from 21 starts) and finished second, third or fourth in seven of the 14 defeats. He wasn’t best drawn when a respectable 33-1 seventh of 13 over the Cambridgeshire trip at Newmarket on last month’s return to turf, the drying ground will suit and the booking of Oisin Murphy is a positive. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back KING’S CODE in York 2.45
Please note that the picks recommended in this blog post are based on past performance and should not be considered a guarantee for future winning outcomes, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
