Daily Spread Betting Round-up

Big winning bets from Monday's racing, NFL and T20 WC

Was it a night for favourites or outsiders at Newcastle’s evening meeting yesterday?

Hollie Doyle guided 6/5 favourite Najeeba home in the 4.55, the first of four favourites to take the honours over Newcastle’s 8-race card. Antarah, an 8/11 favourite won the 6.00, 10/3F Galiac won the next and, after three races where the favourite didn’t oblige, even money favourite Millionaire Waltz danced up in the last.

Favourite Rush (settled at 50)

This market awards points depending on the number of favourites that win across a meeting, with 10 for 1 winner, 20 for 2, 33 for 3, 50 for 4, 70 for 5 and 100 for 6 or more. Before the meeting got underway the spread was set at 23-25, meaning buyers pocketed a profit of 25 times their stake.

How are Scotland doing in the T20 World Cup?

After the high of coming through the qualifiers to make the tournament proper, Scotland’s first game in the Super 12s was a bit of a car crash. Afghanistan underlined their status as dark horses in this tournament by smashing the Scotland attack to all parts of the ground to post 190-4, the highest score of the World Cup so far, before their spin bowlers took over. Mujeeb Ur Rehman took 5-20 and Rashid Khan 4-9 as the Afghans won by 130 runs.

Afghanistan/Scotland (settled at 130)

This match index awards 1 point per run won by, or 10 points per wicket won by, and can have a negative make-up if the other team wins. Scotland had impressed in making it to this stage, beating Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Oman, but they were decidedly second best against Afghanistan. The spread pre-match was 16-24, meaning buyers of Afghanistan won 106 times their bet.

What happened in the NFL Monday Night football between the Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints?

Seattle’s struggles without their injured star quarter-back Russell Wilson continued as they lost a third straight game for the first time in a decade, and fell to 0-3 at home for the first time in nearly 30 years. The Seahawks could have won this game, but a pair of missed field goals, plus a number of small mistakes and a lack of protection for stand-in QB Geno Smith, who was sacked several times, allowed the Saints to sneak home 13-10.

TD Shirt Numbers (settled at 55)

With neither of these teams in top form, and Seattle of course missing their lead offensive weapon in Wilson, sellers in various markets made some money from last night’s low scoring encounter. The total points was set at 41.5-44.5, so sellers there made 18.5 times their stake, but selling TD Shirt Numbers was even more lucrative. The pre-match TD Shirt Numbers spread was set at 166-181, and with only one visit to the endzone each – Alvin Karama, number 41 for New Orleans and Seattle’s number 14 DK Metcalf – was settled at 55, earning sellers 111 times their bet.
