Daily Spread Betting Round-up
On Monday and Tuesday, we saw a feast of sporting action with the EFL Cup quarter-finals getting underway, a match-up in the Australian Big Bash League and the 2023 Snooker Masters coming to its business end.
As usual, we have picked out three big winning spread bets from the action!
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
HOBART HURRICANES V MELBOURNE STARS – SIXES SQUARED (SETTLED AT 25)
First of all, we head to the Blundstone Arena as the Hobart Hurricanes hosted bottom-placed Melbourne Stars in the Australian Big Bash League looking for a win which would keep them in contention for the play-offs.
The Stars opened the batting and got off to a slow start losing both openers for just six runs before Hilton Cartwright and Beau Webster steadied the ship with a partnership of 84 which helped guide the away side to a total of 131-7 off their 20 overs.
The Hurricanes opened their innings the polar opposite to the visitors as Caleb Jewell’s 70 and Zak Crawley’s 30 helped guide the hosts to a dominant position of 115-4 with five and a half overs left. However, it wasn’t as comfortable as the hosts would’ve liked as they lost their next four wickets for just 14 runs before player of the match Nathan Ellis struck a four to give the Hurricane’s an important victory.
With the game being a relatively low-scoring encounter there were only five sixes in the game meaning the Sixes Squared market made up at just 25 (5 x 5 = 25). With a pre-match spread of 169-193 offered, punters who decided to sell won 144x their stake!
MARK ALLEN V BARRY HAWKINS – HAWKINS TO WIN 6-0 (SETTLED AT 0)
Next, we head to Alexandra Palace which after an enthralling Darts PDC World Championships hosts the 2023 Masters with snooker players from all around the world trying to get their hands on the Paul Hunter Trophy.
In this tie fifth in the world rankings Mark Allen faced 13th-ranked Barry Hawkins with both players looking to book themselves a spot in the quarter-finals.
Heading into the tie, Allen was the heavy favourite being seven places higher in the world rankings than Hawkins and was as high as the fourth favourite to win the whole competition at 9/1. However, things didn’t go to plan for the Northern Irishman as Hawkins caused a shock upset winning the tie 6-0.
With Hawkins being the massive underdog the spread on the Englishman to win the game 6-0 ahead of the game was 0–1 meaning that punters who bought won 99x their initial stake!
MANCHESTER UNITED V CHARLTON ATHLETIC – CROSS-BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 0)
Finally, we head to Old Trafford as Manchester United hosted the only non-Premier League side left in the competition in League One outfit Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
The League One defence stood strong for just 21 minutes before the host's £85 million winger Anthony opened the scoring with a spectacular curling effort.
The visitors then courageously survived a 69-minute onslaught from United before Charlton’s will to level the tie left them open allowing in-form Marcus Rashford to score two goals in added time.
But where was the value for the punters?
With there being only two bookings in the game and both coming for the home side the Cross-Bookings market made up at 0 (20 x 0). With a pre-match spread of 240-290 offered, punters who decided to sell won a massive 240x their stake!
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
