England’s Cricket World Cup campaign got underway yesterday, but going off the performance in Ahmedabad, they will have a lot of work ahead of them if they are to defend their title.
They were second favourites in the outright Cricket World Cup betting before play yesterday, but a sub-par performance with the bat was coupled with some mediocre bowling as the Black Caps powered to victory.
Chasing a score of 282, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra hit 152 and 123 runs respectively as New Zealand reached the total within 37 overs. For those who like a spot of cricket spread betting there was a big winning bet for those who sold on the England/New Zealand Supremacy.
Before play began, the defending champions were favoured at 30-40 on the cricket betting supremacy spread, but with a nine-wicket victory for the Black Caps, the market settled at -90 leaving sellers winning 120x their stake.
Aston Villa limped to defeat in their first Europa Conference League match and they struggled to break down Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar last night. The Villains won the shot count 27-3, had 15 corners to the visitor’s none and 75% possession, but they took until the 4th minute of second half stoppage time to break the deadlock thanks to a John McGinn header.
Those who fancied a slow start to the game by buying the time of the 1st Match Goal at 26-29 saw the market settle at 90 (any goals scored in second half injury time count as 90) as they won 61x their stake.

New Zealand against Uruguay was always likely to be a mismatch and the All Blacks were huge favourites in nearly all of the rugby spread betting markets. With the Supremacy spread at 65-69 before the match and settling at 73 as the All Blacks ran out 73-0 winners, there were other ways of landing a big winning bet in this clash.
Enter the exceptionally named Leicester Ofa Ki Wales Twickenham Fainga'anuku who got amongst the tries last night. Named after venues at the 1999 Rugby World Cup in which his father Ta’u represented Tonga, Fainga’anuku scored a hat trick of second half tries last night which was great news for those who had placed a buy bet on his Super Mega Minutes spread.
In this rugby spread bet, the first try minute counts as normal with the second try time counting double and the minute of the third try counting treble. Fainga’anuku bagged his first try in the 49th minute and followed it up with scores in the 68th and 77th minute as his Super Mega Minutes settled at 419.
With the spread at 106-113 (and dipping as low as 57-62 for those who enjoy a bit of in-play betting) those who bought landed a big winning bet of 306x their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
