The NFL returned overnight whilst tonight sees the start of the Rugby World Cup and with England also in cricket and football action, there is plenty to enjoy this weekend. Before that though we run down the big winning bets from the last two days.

WALES v SOUTH KOREA – TOTAL GOAL MINUTES (SETTLED AT 0)

South Korea play Saudi Arabia in Newcastle next week, but last night they were in Cardiff for a clash with Rob Page’s Wales side. Wales have been struggling of late but last night’s encounter was a fairly drab affair from both sides. Harry Wilson had the best chance of the first half but was unable to get a shot off quick enough after being slipped through one-on-one.

Kieffer Moore hit the post for the hosts in a sparsely populated Cardiff City Stadium, but with the first ever meeting between these two sides finishing 0-0, it was always likely to be a night for sellers. Before the match, Total Goal Minutes was 114-124 but settled at zero as sellers landed a win of 114x their stake.

DETROIT @ KANSAS CITY – KANSAS CITY MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 84)

Kansas City Chiefs are the defending NFL champions having won two of the last four seasons and finishing runners-up in one, but they were beaten in the first game of their defence by the Detroit Lions.

Before the match, Detroit were +4 outsiders, but they picked themselves up from a 14-7 half-time deficit to prevail 21-20 in a thrilling clash. There were a couple of big winning bets, but sellers who took on the Kansas City Multi-Points would have made a tidy sum. Before the match began the spread was 194-224, but with only six second half points to multiply the 14 scored in the first half, the market settled at 84 as sellers touched down with a win of 110x their stake.

17:35 CARLISLE 7TH SEPTEMBER – OPAL STORM 50-25-10 (SETTLED AT 50)

We go from the glitz and glamour of the NFL to a class 5 handicap at Carlisle for our final entry for the big winners blog, but the drama on the Cumbrian turf would rival anything seen in Kansas.

Ten runners headed to post for this race, with Opal Storm very much the outsider and priced at 0.5-2 on our Race Index market. Held up in midfield for the opening half of the race, Opal Storm managed to find a way through the traffic and led with a furlong to go under a strong drive from Aiden Brookes. The three-year-old, who was last seen finishing 9th at Beverley, ran a blinder and just had enough left in the tank to hold off the fast-finishing Wee Fat Mac to land an unexpected win.

Those who had the foresight to back Opal Storm on our 50-25-10 Race Index won 48x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
