Daily Spread Betting Round-up
Wednesday night was another exciting sporting feast, mainly featuring the second Champions League match-day, in which Liverpool fell to a shock demolition in Naples and Spurs grabbed an opening victory over Marseille.
In the other sport, Frances Tiafoe became the youngest American since 2006 to reach the US Open semi-finals with a straight sets victory over Andrey Rublev, while the late-night match produced what was arguably one of the all-time great matches, with Carlos Alcaraz overcoming Jannik Sinner in a battle of the new generational talents.
As usual, we look at three big winning spread bets bringing savvy punters joy.
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
NAPOLI V LIVERPOOL – SHIRTS X BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 5400)
Liverpool’s up-and-down form this season continued with a surprisingly poor opening match in the Champions League, falling to a massive 4-1 defeat in Naples. Jurgen Klopp may well begin to start feeling the pressure, especially after seeing his countryman Thomas Tuchel be relieved of his duties as Chelsea manager after a Champions League defeat.
The Reds were 3-0 down after the end of the first half, and it could have been worse if Victor Osimhen had put away a second penalty. The home side did go 4-0 up through Piotr Zielinski’s second goal, and Luis Diaz’s consolation mattered little in the final reckoning.
However, where was the main betting value for spread betting punters? The Shirts x Bookings market was certainly a contender, with a make-up of 5400 meaning those who decided to buy at 2350 – 2650 would have been left with a 2750x return on their opening stake!
SPURS V MARSEILLE - RICHARLISON SUPER MEGA MINUTES (SETTLED AT 238)
With Spurs seemingly heading towards a disappointing home draw against 10-man Marseille, it was left to a would-be hero to take the game by the scruff of the neck and win it for the home side. Summer signing Richarlison would be the one to do just that, with the Brazilian scoring a brace of headers late on.
With goals in the 76th and 81st minutes, the market would make-up at 76 + 162 (as the player’s second goal minutes are doubled), meaning a total of 238. With an opening spread of just 22 – 27, punters who decided to buy would be left with 211x their opening wager.
SINNER V ALCARAZ – TOTAL POINTS (SETTLED AT 382)
In the early hours of Thursday, tennis fans around the world (as well as those in attendance in New York) were treated to a look into the future of tennis, and if this match was anything to go by the sport is in good hands in the post-“big-four” era.
19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz began the stronger and won the first set, but then lost the next two in tight tie-breaks. He then had to save match points and had to break back multiple times, but somehow got the win in five gruelling sets against his fellow young rival, the Italian Jannik Sinner.
In a match lasting over five hours and the latest ever finish at the US Open, this one will live long in the memory. It will also be remembered by punters who decided to buy on the Total Points market, with the marathon featuring a total of 382. Buying on the opening spread of 247 – 254 would have left happy punters with a 128x return on their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
