Daily Spread Betting Round-up

Weekend's Big Winning Bets

After weeks of race meetings across the country being cancelled or abandoned halfway through it was good to get a weekend given the all clear, especially with the amount of quality racing on display. There was Grade 2 success for Epatante, Maximilian, and Tommy’s Oscar at Doncaster whilst Editeur Du Gite was a shock winner of the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham.

There were no such shocks in the FA Cup this weekend, though Sheffield United needed a last minute equaliser to get past National League Wrexham. The last round of rugby union before the Six Nations saw four Premiership matches won by a combined total of 10 points whilst in the cricket England suffered another defeat against South Africa.

There was plenty for punters to get their teeth into this weekend and after a bumper few days, we have picked out the big winning spread bets.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

WREXHAM v SHEFFIELD UNITED – GOALS x CORNERS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 4050)

You would have to be living under a rock to not know who the individuals bankrolling Wrexham were, but the Welsh side were denied a Hollywood ending when John Egan prodded home in the 95th minute to earn a relieved Sheffield United side a replay.

The Blades had taken a second minute lead before Wrexham put themselves 2-1 up in the second half with goals from James Jones and Tom O’Connor. Championship stalwart Ollie Norwood quickly levelled the scores up, but Sheffield United were soon down to ten men with Daniel Jebbison sent off for an off-the-ball clash with Ben Tozer. With the numerical advantage, Wrexham thought they had won it when Paul Mullen scored in the 85th minute, but Egan’s strike meant the sides will do it all over again at Bramall Lane.

It was the most exciting tie of the round and with plenty of action, it is no surprise buyers were in the money on Goals x Corners x Bookings which was 875-1000 before kick-off. 75 booking points, 9 corners and 6 goals meant that the market settled at 4050 with buyers winning a meaty 3050x their initial stake.

CLARENCE HOUSE CHASE – ENERGUMENE 50-25-10 (SETTLED AT 10)

There were fears during the week that racing at Cheltenham would not go ahead for the second time running, but the card went ahead with the rearranged Clarence House Chase one of the highlights of the racing weekend.

Six went to post for the Grade One race and Energumene was the odds-on favourite with a 50-25-10 spread price of 38-41 just before the off. The only other horse in the race with a single figure fixed odds price was the Arkle and Tingle Creek winner Edwardstone.

Bookmakers across the industry were taking huge bets on Energumene, and it was certainly a result that paid off for layers and sellers alike as some poor jumping left the Mullins hotpot back in third with Editeur Du Gite (9-12) just touching off Edwardstone (24-27) into second. Sellers on the Energumene 50-25-10 Race Index would have been jumping with delight as they collected a win of 28x their stake.

SOUTH AFRICA v ENGLAND – TEMBA BAVUMA RUNS (SETTLED AT 109)

One of the most discussed subjects in South African cricket is whether Temba Bavuma deserves his place in the South African white ball sides, let alone captain the team. Having gone unpicked in the inaugural SA20 franchise auction the man from the Western Cape has a point to prove and he did that superbly yesterday.

Coming into bat with his side chasing down 342, the Bavuma Runs spread was 31-36, but a measured score of 109 runs from 102 deliveries before a combination of cramp and Sam Curran got the better of him left buyers collecting a win of 73x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
