Weekend's Big Winning Bets

Cup fever took over England (and sections of Wales) at the weekend as one of the most exciting weekends in the football calendar played out. There may not be as much romance as there used to be in the FA Cup but try telling that to Sheffield Wednesday and Stevenage fans who both watched their sides knock out top-flight opponents.

With a whiff of magic in the air, we take a look through the big winning spread bets from the past few days.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

COVENTRY CITY v WREXHAM – MATCH PERFORMANCE (SETTLED AT 202)

The Match Performance spread is based on everything that makes a game exciting to watch, with 15 points awarded for each goal, 10 points for a red card, 15 points for a penalty to be given, 5 points for a yellow card and three points for every corner. There is also a 25-point deduction if the match finishes 0-0.

There were a few thrilling cup ties over the weekend but Wrexham’s trip to the Midlands, to face Coventry on Saturday evening was jam-packed with action. The odd goal in seven went Wrexham’s way, whilst there was a red card, a penalty, six yellow cards, and 13 corners taken.

The Welsh side’s cup heroics would have thrilled any neutral and Coventry more than played their part, but you would have been even more thrilled had you bought the Match Performance spread. At 88-93 before kick-off, this market settled at 202, leaving buyers collecting a win of 99x their stake.

INDIA v SRI LANKA – SURYAKUMAR YADAV PLAYER RUNS (SETTLED AT 112)

Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav had quite the 2022 and if his exploits at the weekend are anything to go by, he is keen to impress this year as well. Coming in with India 52-2 following nearly six overs, Yadav began clubbing the ball to all corners of the Khanderi Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.

Seven fours were added to with nine sixes as Yadav’s aerial assault had the crowd ducking for cover and the Sri Lanka bowlers scratching their heads. Ultimately, the Mumbai Indians sensation finished 112 not out as India won the match by 91 runs.

As he came into bat Yadav’s Player Runs spread was 34-38 and it was a market favouring the buyers who managed to grab a win of 74x their initial stake.

CHESTERFIELD v WEST BROMWICH ALBION – 1st WEST BROM GOAL (SETTLED AT 2)

One of our partner clubs, West Bromwich Albion, escaped cup ignominy at the weekend when Brandon Thomas-Asante’s 93rd minute equaliser earned the Baggies a replay after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Chesterfield.

In a see-sawing game, West Brom twice took the lead before a half-time brace from Armando Dobra put their National League opponents in front just before the break. The Spireites nearly held on for a famous win, but a draw keeps them in the cup where they could face Bristol City or Swansea in the fourth round.

It was an action-packed afternoon in Derbyshire and it was a good one for sellers of the 1st West Brom goal spread which was 43.5-46.5 before kick-off. Thomas-Asante may well have scored with nearly the last kick of the game, but he also fired in an early opener to put Carlos Cobreran’s side 1-0 up after just two minutes. That left the spread to settle at two with sellers winning a near-maximum 41.5x their initial stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
