After the post-World Cup comedown of their Nations League debut, can England get their confidence back up with a win over Switzerland, at 8pm on Sky Sports Main Event?

It initially looked like Gareth Southgate had a summer spring in their step, going 1-0 up against Spain on Saturday within 11 minutes thanks to Marcus Rashford. Yet it didn’t take long for the visitors, newly led by Luis Enrique, to respond, with Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez equalising 2 minutes later. Just after the half an hour mark Spain then took the lead, Rodrigo scoring what would turn out to be the winner following a poorly marked freekick.

An hour or so later and the final whistle cemented England’s first home defeat of Southgate’s tenure, and their first competitive loss at Wembley since they were prevented from reaching Euro 2008 by Croatia back in 2007.

Tuesday’s team will likely be very different. Dele Alli is out with a minor muscle-strain, while Southgate has already stated that captain Harry Kane will be rested. Eric Dier will be taking the armband off his Tottenham teammate, with Danny Welbeck, Jack Butland and Fabian Delph all likely to get a runout.

As for Switzerland, their Nations League campaign got off to the best start imaginable. They hosted Iceland on Saturday and had an absolute riot, beating the tiny nation – who, remember, knocked England out of Euro 2016 – 6-0. Better yet, they saw 6 individual goal-scorers, with Steven Zuber, Denis Zakaria, Xherdan Shaqiri, Haris Seferovic, Albian Ajeti and Admir Mehmedi all bulging the back of the net.

Despite their differing starts to the Nations League, the World Cup losing semi-finalists should have the edge on Tuesday, with Spreadex offering an England/Switzerland Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.3-2.5.
