Spreadex's Eurovision Song Contest 2015 preview

Offering fixed odds on all the contestants, here are the top 5 countries (as of 21/05/2015) in the running ahead of the big event:

1. Sweden
Home of perhaps the biggest, and best, Eurovision song ever in ABBA’s 1974 winner ‘Waterloo’, Sweden is 13/8 favourite to win this year’s competition with Måns Zelmerlöw’s ‘Heroes’. Sweden won as recently as 2012 and has 5 titles to its name, so it has the previous form to take the crown in 2015.

2. Italy
Italy with 2 wins, in 1964 and 1990 respectively, is second favourite at 10/3. The closest it has come since then is the 2nd place spot in 2011 when it lost to Azerbaijan. However, it will be hoping viewers fall in love with Il Volo’s ‘Grande Amore’ at this year’s competition.

3. Russia
Likely to benefit from its real-life stranglehold on certain areas of Eastern Europe, Russia is at 9/2 to win its second title after victory in 2008. Polina Gagarina will be hoping to speak to more than just ‘A Million Voices’ when she performs on Saturday night.

4. Australia
The controversial upstart on the Eurovision scene this year, Australia has jumped across the pond to take its place in the world’s premier singing competition. At 8/1 to win the Aussies have much higher odds than many other established countries but may face an uphill battle when Guy Sebastian stuns viewers with ‘Tonight Again’.

5. Estonia
One-time winners back in 2001, Estonia, at 11/1, is pinning its hopes on a duet, Elina Born & Stig Rästa, who will hope that after ‘Goodbye to Yesterday’ they will say hello to some points when they perform on Saturday.

Unsurprisingly giving the consistently dismal performance of its entrants, the UK is at 150/1 to take the crown, with the guaranteed to be awful Electro Velvet, singing ‘Still in Love with You’.
