Jordan Henderson may have controversially won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year Award, but he is nowhere near the Top 20 Premier League players of 2019/20 according to Spreadex's season-long Player Performance football spread betting market. That honour goes to Kevin De Bruyne, who collected 3270 Player Performance points across 2019/20. That’s where you receive: 25 points per goal, 10 points per assist, 10 points every time the woodwork is struck, 5 points per shot on target, 5 points per blocked shot inside 6 yards, 3 points per free kick won, 2 points per shot off target and 2 points per completed pass in the opposition’s half. And where was Henderson? All the way down in no. 27, behind teammates Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah AND Georginio Wijnaldum. Man City, meanwhile, have the most players in the top 20, with 7 to Liverpool’s 5. As for 3rd place Man United, not a single player of theirs features. So, who were the top 20 players of the Premier League 2019/20? 1. Kevin De Bruyne – 3270 Player Performance pointsEqualling Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a season – even if the Belgian insists he actually beat that tally – De Bruyne was easily the best player in 2019/20, 236 points above 2nd place. 2. Rodri - 3034 pointsMaking an immediate impact in his debut season in the Premier League, Rodri takes the runners-up spot with 3034 points – on a per game basis, he is actually no. 1, averaging 109.75 points per fixture. 3. Andrew Robertson – 2860 pointsLiverpool’s best player this season, Andrew Robertson is the highest ranked defender on the list, with 2860 points. 4. Trent Alexander-Arnold – 2718 pointsLetting Robertson slip ahead of him – he was in 3rd place himself pre-restart – Trent Alexander-Arnold collected 2718 points this season. 5. Jack Grealish – 2565 pointsBefore the Premier League returned, Jack Grealish was the 15th best player of the season. Now he is 5th, putting a shift in to help Aston Villa stay in the top flight. 6. Virgil van Dijk – 2489 pointsInstrumental in Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp, van Dijk just misses out on the top 5 with 2489 points.7. Ilkay Gundogan – 2405 pointsIn a season that saw him make his 100th appearance for Man City, the German midfielder picked up a respectable 2405 points. 8. Willian – 2384 pointsProving why Chelsea might want to give him the contract he is after, Willian is the Blues’ best ranked player with 2384 points. 9. Raheem Sterling – 2383 pointsWith a personal best 20 Premier League goals this season, Raheem Sterling makes the top 10 with 2382 points.10. James Maddison – 2361 pointsThe sole Leicester player in the top 10, James Maddison collected 2361 points across 31 appearances in 2019/20. 11. Jorginho – 2319 pointsIn his 2nd season at Stamford Bridge Jorginho impressed, with 2319 points in his 31 appearances in the league. 12. David Silva – 2311 pointsIt is a sign of his eternal class that David Silva makes the top 20 with the fewest games played, taking 12th place despite featuring just 27 times. 13. Sadio Mane – 2303 pointsHe may have 1 goal fewer than Mohamed Salah, but Sadio Mane finished ahead of his strike partner with 2303 points.14. Youri Tielemans – 2302 pointsA solitary point behind Mane, Youri Tielemans takes Leicester’s 2nd and final spot in the top 10 – for reference, golden boot winner Jamie Vardy came in 87th place. 15. Bernardo Silva – 2230 pointsA consistent presence in Man City’s midfield for 3 seasons now, Bernardo Silva wrapped up 2019/20 with 2230 points. 16. Kyle Walker – 2198 pointsSneaking his way into the top 20 with only 29 league appearances, Kyle Walker is one of those players who benefited post-restart. 17. Cesar Azpilicueta – 2179 points Chelsea captain Azpilicueta helped usher Frank Lampard’s side in the Champions League next season, picking up 2179 points in the process. 18. Mohamed Salah – 2170 pointsHe may not have hit the heights seen in 2017/18, or even 2018/19, but this time Salah has a Premier League winner’s medal, and 2170 points. 19. Joao Moutinho – 2166 pointsWolves heartbreakingly failed to finish in the top 6, after contending for Europe all season. It may be a small consolation to Joao Moutinho, then, that he makes the top 10 with 2166 points. 20. Mateo Kovacic – 2158 pointsSeeing off Riyad Mahrez by 20 points, Mateo Kovacic takes the final place on this list, following his permanent transfer to Chelsea.
