It’s make or break time for Swansea and Southampton, the relegation-battlers facing off at 7.45pm on Sky Sports. Neither side can be axed on Tuesday night – in fact, West Brom are likely to be the main casualty, with the Baggies put beyond reach of safety is either side pick up a win at the Liberty Stadium. However, the result of this evening’s 6-pointer will have huge ramifications for who remains in the Premier League next season. The Saints are oh so slightly in the better position. Both sides are on 33 points, but with Swansea in 18th to their opponent’s 17th due to an inferior goal difference. Yet who they play on the final day of the season arguably removes this slender advantage – while Swansea take on the already relegated Stoke, Southampton host Man City. If Southampton – who are actually unbeaten in their last 3 games, with a win over Bournemouth sandwiched between draws against Leicester and Everton – are victorious, then they will be guaranteed to stay in the top flight if they avoid defeat against City. A loss would require the Swans to beat Stoke on Saturday, while hoping that either Huddersfield or Southampton mess up. Flip the result around and all Swansea would need to do is draw against Stoke to reach safety. Southampton, on the other hand, would both HAVE to beat Man City and need one of Swansea and Huddersfield to lose to keep hold of their place in the Premier League. And a draw? Though Southampton would only need to match Swansea’s result to stay up, the fact they are facing dominant champs Man City – who admittedly did draw against Huddersfield on Saturday – arguably means a Tuesday stalemate would arguably work more in Swansea’s favour. In terms of who could make the difference in Wales, Southampton have Charlie Austin is at a Super Mega PGM of 31-37, with Manolo Gabbiadini at 21-26. For Swansea, meanwhile, there’s Jordan Ayew at 21-16, with Tammy Abraham at 20-24 and Andre Ayew at 13-17. Given the hosts haven’t won a game since the start of March, the Saints just about the edge, at a Southampton/Swansea (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.05-0.25 alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.25-2.45.
