The new Championship season continues apace and the highlight of the weekend in the second tier comes from East Lancashire where Blackburn face Burnley. Elsewhere in this Championship betting preview, we see if two of our sides can continue their perfect records whilst giving you the lowdown on the odds and prices from all of the action elsewhere.
One of the fiercest rivalries in British football is resumed on Saturday as Blackburn Rovers make the short trip to Turk Moor for the latest instalment of El Lanclasico.
Rovers sit third in the table with two wins and a draw from their opening fixtures and they are 29/10 to get a win over their bitter rivals. Burnley, who were brought back down to earth with defeat at Sunderland last weekend, are a shade of odds on at 17/20 whilst the draw can be backed at 5/2.
In our football spread betting markets, the booking points spread will attract plenty of attention with the spread currently 47-51. The last meeting between these two saw Burnley clinch the Championship title under Vincent Kompany’s stewardship in a match which featured 80 booking points.
Partner club Cardiff are also in lunchtime action tomorrow with the Bluebirds currently nesting at the bottom of the league with just one point to their name. They have scored just once in the league this season and are 14/5 to get a win tomorrow, with Boro unsurprisingly the favourites for this match at 10/11.
City are certainly goal shy and a couple of spread betting markets may be of interest. Firstly, the Cardiff first goal minute spread is 55.5-58.5 (if they don’t score the market settles at 90) whilst Cardiff Total Goal Minutes is 51-59.
Onto the 3pm kick-offs now and Sheffield Wednesday travel to Bermondsey to face a Millwall side who also have just one point to their name. Danny Rohl’s side blew Plymouth away in their opening match of the season, but the goals have dried up for Wednesday who were well beaten by Sunderland and Leeds in their last two outings.
In a tough match to call, Wednesday are 9/5 to get the win, Millwall are 29/20 and the draw is priced at 21/10.
Preston North End have had a tumultuous start to the season, but their loyal fans will hope they have turned a corner after Paul Heckingbottom presided over a 1-0 win in his first match in charge.
The Lilywhites travel to the Kassam Stadium this weekend and they are 19/10 to make it back-to-back wins with victory over hosts Oxford United. In their combined six matches this season, over 2.5 goals has landed twice. You can back the unders at 5/6 whilst the Total Goals spread betting market is 2.55-2.75.
Regis le Bris is certainly enjoying life in Sunderland at the moment with his Black Cats side sat atop the Championship table with a perfect record of three wins, seven goals scored and none conceded.
The Mackems make the 340-mile trip to Fratton Park this weekend where they will be even money to make it four wins on the spin. For those of a red and white persuasion who are feeling extra confident, the visitors can be backed to win to nil again at 5/2 whilst the Sunderland -1 handicap is 3/1.
Romaine Mundle is the man tasked with filling the hole left by Jack Clarke’s departure and after opening his account last weekend, the wideman is 27/10 to hit the back of the net on the south coast.
Coventry will be looking to extend Norwich’s winless start to the season this weekend with Mark Robins’ City side 87/100 to clip the Canaries wings in the Midlands.
An opening day defeat for Norwich against Oxford has been followed up with back-to-back draws and with star players Jon Rowe and Gabriel Sara departing in the summer, it has been a tough few weeks at Carrow Road.
Still, this match presents Norwich with an opportunity to get their season up and running with the visitors 14/5 to open their account this weekend whilst a third successive Norwich draw is 5/2.
West Bromwich Albion occupy a play-off spot at this early stage in the season and the Baggies are 11/10 to finish in the top six come the end of the season. This weekend, they entertain Swansea at the Hawthorns with the hosts 17/20 to keep the good times rolling. An away win can be backed at 3/1 with the draw at 12/5.
It has been a busy transfer window for Sheffield United and at the time of writing there remains plenty of interest in their star player Gus Hamer. Chris Wilder will be hoping to keep hold of the Dutchman with the attacking midfielder a key player for a Blades side who are 10/3 in our Championship promotion odds.
Travelling to South Yorkshire for this ‘Partner Club Derby’ are Tom Cleverley’s Watford who have confounded pre-season expectations with nine points from their opening three matches. Sunday’s match will be their toughest yet and the Hornets are 3/1 outsiders to take three points back to Hertfordshire. If Sheffield United are to bounce back at the first attempt, they need to be ruthless in the Steel City with a home win at 5/6 whilst we are betting 5/2 on the spoils being shared.
