2024/25 Championship Betting Preview Week 5

landing-page-cship-blog

The first international break of the season will have allowed our partner clubs in the Championship to take stock and it has been a good start for most of our clubs. Four of the top five in the league are partners with Spreadex and were it not for Sheffield United’s point deduction, that would have been five out of the top six.

The weekend’s action starts with the Blades’ trip to Hull and we have all eight matches featuring our teams covered in this week’s betting blog.

HULL CITY v SHEFFIELD UNITED, FRIDAY 8PM

Hull City face their second Yorkshire derby in as many games this weekend as they host Sheffield United and the Tigers will hope to far better than last time out when they were mauled by Leeds United.

Following an unbeaten start to the season, Sheffield United are 23/20 favourites on Humberside with both the draw and a home win pried up at 12/5. With tonight’s fixture live on Sky, we have some bet boosts as well with Welshman Kieffer Moore looking to follow up a successful international break. The big target man is 8/5 from 11/8 to hit the back of the net this evening.

MILLWALL v LUTON TOWN, SATURDAY 12:30PM

Two sides that have a fair bit of history meet on Saturday as partner club Millwall welcome Luton Town to The Den.

Town have had a dreadful start to the season having picked up just one point in their four matches since relegation from the top flight and this one looks a tough match to call. Our traders have the hosts – who have four points from their last two league games – as narrow favourites for the win at 13/8 with the Hatters backable at 17/10.

The draw is priced up at 11/5 and football spread betting punters can buy or sell Total Goals at 2.56-2.65.

MIDDLESBROUGH v PRESTON NORTH END, SATURDAY 3PM

No one is chalked up shorter to get three points this weekend in the second tier than Middlesbrough who are 40/85 to extend Preston’s miserable start to the season.

New man at the helm Paul Heckingbottom will have been glad for a two week break to get into his players who sit a point and a place above the relegation zone. North End are 11/2 to take three points back to Deepdale whilst a valuable away point on Teesside is 3/1.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE v SUNDERLAND, SATURDAY 3PM

Principal partners Sunderland are in dreamland under French manager Regis Le Bris who has his young charges on top of the league after a perfect start to the season. The Black Cats have shipped just one goal this season (an own goal from defender Luke O’Nien) and they are 3/4 to win at troubled Plymouth with an away win to nil priced up at 11/5.

In the goalscorer markets, Romaine Mundle has been in form lately and is 21/10 to score anytime tomorrow with team mate Eliezer Mayenda 19/10 from 13/8 to hit the back of the net in one of our boosted bets.

SWANSEA CITY v NORWICH CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Two sides with middling records meet in South Wales this weekend as partner club Norwich City make the long cross-country trip to face Swansea.

The Canaries recorded their first win under Johannes Thorup before the break and they are 19/10 to win this weekend against a side who have just four points to their name. Swansea, for their part, will see this as a chance to kick-start this season and the Welsh outfit are 13/10 to do the business tomorrow with the draw priced up at 23/10.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v QPR, SATURDAY 3PM

It has been a tough start to the season for Sheffield Wednesday who have recorded three losses in a  row after battering Plymouth on opening day, but Danny Rohl’s side are favourites this weekend when they welcome QPR to South Yorkshire.

A second win of the season for the Owls is 5/4, with the away win at 21/10 and the draw at 11/5. Like Blackburn Rovers, both sides have scored in all of QPR’s league and cup matches this season and you an back both teams to score at 8/11 whilst the Total Goal Minutes football spread betting market can be bought or sold at 124-134.

WATFORD v COVENTRY CITY, SATURDAY 3PM

Watford have enjoyed a good start to the season, picking up nine points from an available 12, but gaffer Tom Cleverley will be keen to see his troops bounce back after defeat against Sheffield United last time out.

The Hornets face a tough test in the form of Coventry City and they are narrow 31/20 favourites to beat a Cov side who are perhaps underperforming at the moment. Mark Robins is one of the longest-serving EFL managers for a reason though and his outfit are 8/5 to get their second win of the season with the draw at 23/10.

PORTSMOUTH v WEST BROMWICH ALBION, SUNDAY 3PM

We round off the weekend with Sunday’s televised clash between Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion at Fratton Park. With the ‘Barclaysmen’ trend sweeping the nation, this match conjures up images of Chris Brunt, Yakubu, Niko Krancjar, and Zoltan Gera. Those days are long gone for both of these sides however, and instead it is Josh Maja who has been boosted from 6/4 to 7/4 to hit the back of the net whilst combative Irishman Jayson Molumby is 19/10 from 13/8 to find his way into the referee’s notebook.

In the match odds market, the Baggies are 87/100 to keep their good start to the season going having risen to second in the league, but with three draws to their name this season, Pompey are no pushovers. A fourth draw in five league games for the hosts can be backed at 5/2 with a home win at 16/5.
