Premier League Preview – Newcastle vs Manchester City, Tuesday 29th January 2019



Will Man City dump Newcastle back into the relegation zone on Tuesday night, at 8pm on BT Sport 1?

Since 2019 began, City have been simply brutal. Fuelled by that potentially title chase-ruining wobble either side of Christmas, the defending champions have conceded just once since the New Year began, while banging in 30 goals in 7 games.


Now, those numbers are massaged somewhat by the calibre of club City has faced following their 2-1 January 3rd win over Liverpool (who they still trail by 4 points). In the league they’ve seen a pair of 3-0 victories over Wolves and Huddersfield; in the Carabao Cup semi-finals Burton were battered within an inch of their life; and in the FA Cup their 7-0 demolition of Rotherham in the 3rd round was followed on Saturday by a 5-0 thwacking of Burnley.

Gabriel Jesus been on fire, his 8 goals in 2019 – half of those coming against Burton – taking his season tally to 15 in all competitions, just one behind Sergio Aguero. The Argentine ace goes into Tuesday night at a Toon-scaring Super Mega PGM of 70-82, ahead of Jesus’ 57-67 and Raheem Sterling’s 39-45.

Squatting 2 points above the relegation zone in 17th, Newcastle aren’t having a good time of it at the moment. Dealing with a holiday fixtures list as cruel as City’s 2019 run has been kind, the Toon found themselves facing Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea in quick succession, with those predictably losing efforts joined by a draw at Watford and a win over Cardiff.

Last weekend then threw their hopes of an FA Cup distraction out of the window. After being forced to an eventually successful 3rd round replay by Blackburn, they went and got beaten by the Hornets at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Considering their recent free-scoring form, Rafa Benitez and co. have every reason to be terrified of their visitors, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Newcastle (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 2-2.2, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.25-3.45.
