Although the European football season is over, there is a range of sporting events for punters to get their teeth into this week, with top-class golf, tennis, cricket and international football to look forward to.
As always, we highlight some of the big events and markets to watch out for in our Bets of the Week!
The below prices are indicative and may be subject to fluctuation
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
FOOTBALL – UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE & EURO 2024 QUALIFIERS
International football takes centre-stage this week as the EURO 2024 qualifiers continue, and the UEFA Nations League semi-finals take place with Netherlands v Croatia and Spain v Italy.
In those fixtures, it is the Netherlands who are favoured to win at Evens, and Spain favoured at 13/10. Who will secure their place in the showpiece final?
In the EURO qualifiers, England are in action against minnows Malta and a high-scoring affair is expected – with Total Goals at 3.95 – 4.25 on the spreads, and Total Goal Minutes at 200 – 215. The two sides have met five times before with the Three Lions victorious every time, with the last meeting a 4-0 victory. Interestingly, Malta managed to avoid conceding until the 53rd minute. With the 1st Match Goal spread at 24 – 27 ahead of this one, would you buy or sell?

GOLF – 2023 US OPEN
The third of golf’s four ‘Majors’ gets underway this week with the US Open from the Los Angeles Country Club. Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick comes into the event as reigning champion but comes into this year’s event at 30/1 on the fixed odds and 5 – 7 on the spreads. Can he defy those predictions and defend his crown here?
The outright favourite for the win this year is Scottie Scheffler at 13/2 on the fixed odds and 17 – 20 on the spreads, while Irishman Rory McIlroy is available as fourth favourite behind Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka. McIlroy currently stands at 12/1 on the fixed odds and 10 – 13 on the spreads.
Our Tournament Leaderboard spread market pays out for eight places on the 80 - 40 - 30 - 25 - 20 - 15 - 10 - 5 Index. This means that if you bought McIlroy's Leaderboard spread of 10 - 13 and he finished as the winner, you would win 67x your opening wager. If he finished second, you would win 27x your opening wager. However, if he finished in eighth position but you bought at 13, you would lose 8x your stake.
Spreadex also have several special markets including place betting for a top 5, top 10 or top 20 finish, as well as overall Finishing Positions and Player Performances markets. Check them all out at the link below!
TENNIS – GRASS COURT SEASON – STUTTGART & HERTOGENBOSCH
The tennis season transitions from the gruelling clay court season to the fast grass courts, with several warm-up events taking place in the first weeks of June before the biggest Grand Slam of the season on the lawns of SW19 at Wimbledon, where Novak Djokovic will be aiming to claim a record-extending 24th Grand Slam and eighth Wimbledon trophy after his success last weekend at the French Open.
While there is still the famous Queen’s Club tournament to take place later this month, this week the action takes place in Stuttgart, Germany and s’Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Most of the world’s best players will be taking part in these tournaments and will look to get well accustomed to the unique conditions of the grass.
You can check out all of our live and pre-match markets for both tournaments by clicking on the link below.
CRICKET – THE ASHES
The most famous cricket series gets underway for another iteration as England and Australia lock horns in another battle for the Ashes urn. England will look to avoid the humiliation of 2021-22 when Australia swept the series 4-0, and expectations are certainly higher this time around.
In fact, England have not won the Ashes since 2015, losing the last two series down under and drawing at home in 2019, so motivation will be at an all-time high to reverse that particular trend and make use of home soil advantage.
The Aussies also currently have the edge over England in the ICC world test rankings and are a team full of quality, but Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have created a very different England team these days and will be eager to strike back.
Spreadex have plenty of betting options for the Ashes, including our Long-Term markets such as Batsman Runs. Among those, we have Ben Stokes Runs at 345 - 365 and David Warner Runs at 335 - 355. View all of our current markets and keep an eye on the website/app for all of our betting options over the course of the series!
FORMULA ONE – CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
And finally, the latest round of the F1 season takes place this weekend as the teams and drivers travel to the Canadian GP at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Max Verstappen is once again the overwhelming favourite for yet another victory at just 3/10, but punters may look at the value of backing Lewis Hamilton to grab a first win of the season and first since the 2021 season at 12/1.
Montreal was of course the scene of Hamilton’s first victory way back in 2007 and he also holds the overall joint-record amount of wins at the track with seven (alongside Michael Schumacher), and with the Englishman rumoured to be signing an extension with Mercedes ahead of this race, could he mark the occasion in the best possible way and reward Mercedes’ recent upgrades?
In terms of spread betting markets, our Live Index markets have Verstappen at 18.5 – 20, Hamilton at 4 – 5.5 and last season’s second-placed finisher Carlos Sainz at 0.5 – 1.5.
