Champions League Final, Play-Off Final, What Happens Next?

Angel di Maria is taking a corner against Brest in PSG’s final Ligue 1 game of the season – what happens next?

Spreadex Bets of the Weekend

1. Man City v Chelsea – 8pm Saturday, BT Sport 1
Despite their Premier League and EFL Cup victories, defeat on Saturday night would cast a long shadow over the 2020/21 season for Man City.

The Champions League is the one title that has eluded Pep Guardiola since he arrived at City, and it will be a bitter blow if they fall at the final hurdle in Porto.

Standing in City’s way is Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, a team of formidable discipline, yet one that only secured a top 4 finish thanks to Leicester’s own failings.

On one hand, the Blues have already beaten City this month, winning 2-1 at the Etihad on May 8th. On the other hand, Chelsea have since lost 3 in 4 games in all competitions, with defeats to Arsenal and Aston Villa in the league, and the Foxes in the FA Cup.

City had the freedom to let their focus wander domestically. That won’t be the case on Saturday, and Tuchel and co. can perhaps expect a different team to turn up than the one they beat 3 weeks ago.

Guardiola’s lads are the favourites, at a Man City/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.5-0.7, a match odds price of 17/20, and a to win trophy price of 4/9. In comparison, Chelsea are at 7/2 and 7/4 respectively.

Elsewhere, Spreadex is offering a Total Goals spread of 2.2-2.4, and a very low Total Goal Minutes spread of 113-123 – befitting the 2 tightest defences in the Premier League.

2. Brentford v Swansea – 3pm Saturday, Sky Sports Main Event
The UCL final isn’t the only big fixture this Saturday. Brentford and Swansea travel to Wembley at 3pm to see who will join Norwich and Watford in the Premier League next season.

The Bees – who finished 4 points shy of 2nd place Watford – will be hoping to rectify the heartache of last season’s play-off final, where they lost 2-1 to Fulham in extra time.

The Swans – 7 points behind the Bees in 4th place – will be chasing revenge for their 2019/20 play-off semi-final defeat at the hands of Brentford themselves, a fixture they lost 3-2 on aggregate after winning the home leg 1-0.

Both of their meetings this season ended in 1-1 stalemates, so there are no clues to a winner there.

Spreadex, however, has the Bees winning it, at a Brentford/Swansea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.55-0.75, alongside match odds of 17/20 and to win play-off odds of 2/5. Swansea, by contrast, are at 10/3 and 15/8.

3. French Open 2021 - from Sunday 30th May
The 2021 French Open proper starts on Sunday, with Rafa Nadal chasing his 14th title at Roland Garros, and his 5th consecutive victory.

If he does win – and Spreadex has him as odds on favourite at 10/11 – he would become the most decorated man in Open Era tennis history, overtaking Roger Federer with 21 Grand Slam titles.

Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, could move withing 1 Grand Slam of Federer and Nadal if he triumphs in France, something he hasn’t done since his sole win in 2016.

Spreadex has him at fixed odds of 7/2, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas at 13/2 and Dominic Thiem at 7/1. Federer, meanwhile, is down at 33/1.
